Liverpool are set to challenge Merseyside rivals Everton for the signature of Guilherme Siqueira, according to reports in Spain.

The Granada defender has been targeted by the Toffees this summer, but it now looks as though Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers could be preparing to make a move as he looks to bolster his back line.

Reports last month suggested the Northern Irishman was keen on taking Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand to Anfield, but the Blues and Bertrand immediately killed the chance of any possible deal, leaving Rodgers to turn his attentions to highly rated 27-year-old Siqueira.

The Brazilian is thought to have a £21m release clause in his current contract, although it is rumoured a bid of around £12m could be enough to convince Granada to sell.

Siqueira was wanted by fellow Spanish side Valencia last year, but although Granada denied the defender a move, he admits he is confident he would be granted a transfer if Liverpool came calling.

'I had a very good offer from Valencia last year and the club decided not to sell me,' he said.

'I simply told the club's president that if there is another offer this year, that he should let me make my dream of playing for a big European club come true.

'He said yes, that he would help me. And this is what's going on. If the offers that are coming are good for the club and for me, I think it's the right moment to sell me.'
