Sevilla are holding out for around £8m from Liverpool for Luis Alberto.

The midfielder, who can also play as a forward, is on Brendan Rodgers' wanted list.

Rodgers is eager to get his summer business done early and hopes to sign Alberto by next week - although Liverpool and Sevilla are still apart in their valuations.

Alberto, who spent last season on loan at Barcelona B, is expected to leave Sevilla this summer.

The 20-year-old could yet move to Barcelona permanently, although they only have until June 15 to exercise their 'first option' clause.

It is understood that the Nou Camp club are cool on the idea of signing the Spain Under-21 international, with Liverpool in pole position.

The Reds rate him at around £5m but Sevilla want £8m, meaning there will be more negotiations between the two clubs.

Express: Owner on Begovic future

STOKE CITY owner Peter Coates has insisted he won't block a move for top shot stopper Asmir Begovic should they receive the asking price for him.

The Bosnian, who has been valued at £15m, has caught the attention of Arsenal and most recently Liverpool such is his growing stature in the Premier League.

Although Coates expects Begovic to be at the Britannia Stadium next season, he also insisted that he would have to listen to what the Premier League's big boys have to say.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "We like him very much. He is a top, top goalkeeper. I think he is as good as anybody in the Premier League.

"But he is also ambitious. If top clubs come for your players, I do not think you can deny them the opportunity. That is my view.

"But it would depend very much on the money being right. We are not looking to sell him.

"We are not expecting to sell him. We expect him to be our goalkeeper next season."

Mirror: Villa makes decision
May 31st 2013, 11:45

This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

Barcelona striker David Villa is reportedly weighing up offers from Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham as he looks set for a Premier League move.

According to Spanish website Sport.es, the all-time leading Spain goalscorer has decided his future lies away from the Spanish champions and has decided on a Premier League move.

Arsenal are in the driving seat to land the Barcelona striker who is available for €14million, following their qualification for next season's Champions League.

As we previously revealed, Spurs have been in negotiations with Barca, but their failure to qualify for the Europe's top competition puts them at a disadvantage.

At Anfield, Pepe Reina has been keen to emphasise to his international team-mate that with a new structure in place, Liverpool are again ready to challenge for honours.

Villa is keen to play regular first-team football next season, as he eyes a place in the Spanish team at the World Cup in Brazil.

Express: Rodgers to test Porto

Liverpool target Christian Atsu has turned down a new contract at Porto in order to secure a dream move to England

Brendan Rodgers is looking to boost Liverpool's attack that will be without suspended talisman Luis Suarez for the beginning of next season.

The Ghanian international, a long-term target of Rodgers, rejected a four-year contact extension in the hope of securing a move to England.

And Rodgers now looks set to test Porto's resolve to keep the 21-year-old winger with a £7 million bid.

Atsu talking to Aola spoke of his desire to play in the Premier League.

He said: "My dream is to play in England and it is very nice to see my name linked with big clubs in the Premier League. For now, I'm focused on my football, but I see my future in England.

"I hope to have some news soon."

Goal: Ajax star ready for move
May 31st 2013, 08:32

This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

The Denmark boss says the Ajax youngster is set for a move to a European giant amid speculation linking him with a switch to Liverpool or Borussia Dortmund this summer

Ajax attacker Christian Eriksen is ready for a move to a bigger club, according to Denmark coach Morten Olsen.

Speculation has intensified in recent weeks over where the 21-year-old will be plying his trade next season, with some believing he is being lined up by Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool.

Olsen, who coaches the starlet at international level, says Eriksen has come of age and is well-equipped to handle a move to one of Europe's finest clubs.

"This is the right time for him to go," Olsen told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. "There are many players who moved to a top club too early, but Christian is really ready.

"He played great against Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, PSV and Feyenoord this season, so maybe that's where Dortmund's interest stems from."

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is rumoured to be an admirer of Eriksen - whose Ajax deal expires next summer - but the Dutch champions denied reports last month that a deal had been struck with the Reds to bring the youngster to Anfield.

This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

Stoke City owner Peter Coates does not want to sell Asmir Begovic but would not stand in the goalkeeper's way if a 'top club' offers the right amount of money.

The £15million-rated Bosnia and Herzegovina international has been linked with Liverpool and Chelsea over recent months after a fantastic season.

But while Coates admits he would not deny Begovic a dream move, Stoke, who appointed Mark Hughes as their new manager on Thursday, would not be prepared to sell on the cheap if at all.

"Asmir is a super professional player," Coates told Sky Sports. "We like him very much. He is a top, top goalkeeper. I think he is as good as anybody in the Premier League.

News Media Watch from Liverpool FC: Goal: Reds target 'Colombian Ronaldo'

Goal: Reds target 'Colombian Ronaldo'
May 30th 2013, 14:37

This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

Blistering pace, wonderful dribbling skills, lethal finishing, injury issues and weight problems  - it's easy to understand why Liverpool target Luis Muriel is known as "the Colombian Ronaldo".

The Udinese attacker has been burdened with the tag ever since he first came to prominence in his homeland with Deportivo Cali four years ago.

Muriel's natural talent was obvious from the moment he made his professional debut as an 18-year-old and, after just 11 appearances for the Verdiblancos (during which he scored nine goals), he was on his way to Udinese in the summer of 2010.

The Zebrette immediately loaned Muriel to Granada, but he failed to make an impression during his short stint in the Segunda Division. However, the youngster would prove his worth the following year during a tremendously productive loan spell at Lecce, at the end of which he was named Serie A Young Player of the season alongside Stephan El Shaarawy.

Muriel's achievement made all the more noteworthy by the fact that he had been plying his trade in a side that dropped into the relegation zone in week five never to re-emerge.

In that context, seven goals in 29 league appearances was a highly respectable tally for a forward with no previous Serie A experience, as underlined by the reported interest of Juventus, Inter, Milan and Roma in signing the striker.

Muriel enjoyed the attention of Italy's elite, publicly expressing his admiration of Milan, the club he had supported as a boy, before then claiming that both the Rossoneri and Inter had made "official offers" for his services.

However, Udinese were not about to offload Muriel before he had played a single game at the Friuli and dismissed all offers for the Colombian. Whether that was why the player turned up for pre-season horribly out of shape is open to debate. What remained clear was that Francesco Guidolin was not impressed by the condition he found Muriel in last July.

"If he wants to talk with me, he should lose five pounds," the enraged Zebrette boss told Gazzetta dello Sport. "He not speak with me until he has a physique of an athlete; he must work hard."

Thankfully, Muriel heeded his coach's warning and was in peak condition in time for the start of the new season. However, then injury intervened, and the striker missed three-and-a-half months with a hairline fracture of his left femur.

Muriel returned seemingly fitter and stronger than ever, though, scoring three goals in his first three starts following his return to action in December and would go on to play a key role in Udinese clinching a Europa League place.

Muriel's strike in the Zebrette's 5-2 final-day demolition of Inter was his 11th goal in 22 appearances - the best numbers of his career to date.

It is worth noting, though, that only 15 of those appearances were starts, with a number of niggling injuries having hampered Muriel during the second half of the season. Still, his talent and potential are both beyond dispute and, encouragingly, he seems to have matured as a person over the course of the past 12 months.

When his future at the Friuli began to be discussed again in the media towards the tail end of last season, Muriel was at pains to point out just how indebted he feels both Guidolin and strike partner Antonio Di Natale for their guidance and support - on and off the field.

"I have learnt so much here from the boss, who helped me during my moments of difficulty," he told Gazzetta. "The partnership [with Di Natale] has gone so well, too, and 'Toto' has taught me a lot."

And there's the rub: Muriel still has much to learn. Admittedly, the comparisons with Ronaldo are strikingly obvious.

It is not just the bulky build and powerful upper-body strength, Muriel has the same incredible turn of pace and shifts the ball onto his heavily favoured right foot in an eerily similar manner to 'Il Fenomeno', as evidenced by the first of his two goals in Colombia's 4-1 victory over France at the 2011 Fifa Under-20 World Cup. However, unlike Ronaldo, he is not, at 22, the finished article. He has been capped just once by his country, after all.

What he is, though, is a forward of enormous potential. He freely admits that he has to work on his movement and pay greater attention to his defensive duties, but he is undoubtedly capable of adapting to the rigours of the English game on account of his phyisque, impressive hold-up play, incredibly quick feet and fantastic technique.

As Di Natale stated recently, "In a few years Luis will become a great champion." Signing Muriel now would therefore be a very shrewd move on Liverpool's part because, just like Ronaldo, when he is in shape, he can be out of this world.

Kurt Zouma is set to become the latest starlet to join the Russian revolution at Anzhi Makhachkala.

The 18-year-old, who represents France at Under-20 level, has been coveted by Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea in recent months.

But the highly rated defender, who extended his deal at Saint-Etienne until 2017 earlier this year, could now link up with Samuel Eto'o at Anzhi.

Sources in France claim the Russian moneybags will splash out £8.5m to secure Zouma's signature.

The centre-back made 18 league appearances for Saint-Etienne last season.

talkSPORT: The Barca ace heading to Anfield
May 30th 2013, 14:21

This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

Liverpool look like they're keen to get their transfer business done early and with strong suggestions they are about to sign Barcelona B forward, Luis Alberto, talkSPORT's Transfer Spotlight runs the rule of the young, versatile Spaniard.

Name: Luis Alberto Romero Alconchel
Date of birth: 28 September, 1992
Position: Forward

Birthplace: Cadiz, Spain
Club: Barça B (on loan from Sevilla)
International appearances: One Spain U21 and two Spain U19 caps

What's the latest?

Barcelona brought Alberto in on loan last summer from Sevilla to play with their B team, but despite performing admirably with their reserves in the Spanish second division, the Catalans have reportedly decided not to execute the option to buy him for €5m (£4.2m). Spanish football journalist and Liverpool supporter, Guillem Balague, has now claimed the Reds have moved in for Alberto and a deal could be days from completion.

Did you know?

1) Alberto is a product of Sevilla's youth academy and made his professional debut with their B team in the Spanish third division in 2010.

2) In his second season with Sevilla's reserves, the youngster scored 15 goals, and was rewarded with his first team debut in April 2011 against Getafe.

3) Barcelona brought him to the Miniestadi on loan in August 2012, making him a part of their B team and including an option to buy at the end of the season. In 37 games with Barcelona's reserves, he has scored 11 goals and assisted 17.

4) The attacker made his Spain U21 debut on 5 February, 2013, coming on in the 68th minute in a 1-1 draw against Belgium.

5) Alberto is a particularly good free-kick taker, and has scored two for Barça B this season, including this brilliant strike against Mirandes.

Liverpool have joined Manchester City and Real Madrid in the race to sign Sevilla's Jesus Navas.

City originally were planning a double swoop for Navas and his team-mate Geoffrey Kondogbia although there hasn't been much movement with the latter recently.

Navas according to reports on the continent is believed to be torn between a move to the Premier League and staying in La Liga.

But with Sevilla need to balance their books, it seems that they may have little option in cashing in on Navas.

A report in Marca has it that Sevilla will only accept offers in the £17m region for the talented midfielder.

They also allude to the idea that Navas is ripe for a fresh challenge which could accelerate his departure.

Navas fired blanks the whole of the last campaign.

Metro: Porto ace set for Liverpool transfer
May 30th 2013, 15:56

This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

Christian Atsu has cleared the way for a move to Liverpool this summer by turning down a new contract at Porto in favour of a 'dream move to England'.

The 21-year-old, who was a target for the Reds last summer, had been offered fresh terms on a new four-year-deal with the Portuguese champions, but he has now rejected that offer.

And speaking to Abola, Atsu says he is now hopeful of forcing through a switch to the Premier League.

"I spoke with Porto before coming to this decision and informed them that I will not sign a new contract," he said.

"The club told me what they want to do, and hopefully we can find a solution now.

"My dream is to play in England and it is very nice to see my name linked with big clubs in the Premier League. For now, I'm focused on my football, but I see my future in England.

"I hope to have some news soon."

Liverpool are now expected to step up their interest in Atsu, who burst on to the scene on-loan at Rio Ave in 2012, before returning to Porto for last season.

He has since enjoyed a mixed time, but the Reds are expected to offer up to £7million to bring to him to Anfield.

The Ghana international fits with Brendan Rodgers' youth based philosophy, and despite interest from Spurs, they remain confident of pulling off a transfer.

Mail: Liverpool agree fee for hitman
May 30th 2013, 08:31

This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

Liverpool have agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £6million with Celta Vigo to sign 25-year-old striker Iago Aspas.

Aspas - who will play in relegation-threatened Celta's final game of the season against Espanyol on Saturday - will fly into Liverpool next week to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

Aspas has attracted interest from Swansea and Valencia but Brendan Rodgers has moved quickly to beat off competition for the striker, who has netted 12 goals in La Liga this season.

Rodgers was keen to add to his striking options with Luis Suarez's ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic ruling him out of the start of the next campaign, leaving Daniel Sturridge and Fabio Borini as the club's only remaining frontmen.

Like his new team-mate Suarez, Aspas, whose £8m valuation was reduced due to his side's precarious league position, is no stranger to controversy.

He recently received a four-match ban for headbutting Deportivo defender Carlos Marchena.

Aspas came through the ranks at Celta, making his debut in 2008 and top-scoring with 23 league goals last season as the club were promoted back to the Spanish top flight.

Celta are one point adrift of safety heading into Saturday's clash at home to Espanyol.

Liverpool have agreed a fee with Celta Vigo for forward Iago Aspas, with the Spaniard set to meet Reds' officials for talks.

Reports in Spain suggest the 25-year-old, who has scored 60 goals in 130 appearances, will cost Liverpool in the region of £7.5million if personal terms are agreed.

Aspas has been a target for several top European clubs, including Chelsea and Tottenham, but Brendan Rodgers has moved quickly, before the end of the La Liga season, to try and secure a deal.

Rodgers, who has already sealed a deal for free agent Kolo Toure, has been keen to further bolster his attacking options and Aspas will offer something different going forward.

Celta could be relegated this weekend with Aspas' side currently in the relegation zone, one point adrift of fourth-bottom Deportivo La Coruna, ahead of a home clash with Espanyol on Sunday.

Liverpool have reportedly agreed terms to sign Celta Vgo forward Iago Aspas, according to Liverpool Echo.

The report claims the 25-year-old is subjected to a medical next week and will be joining the Merseyside club for a fee of £7.7m.

Celta were promoted to La Liga for the 2012-13 campaign and Aspas is the club's top scorer for his side with 12 goals and has six assists to his name.

Abel Resino will be banking on the Spaniard to strike against his side's crunch tie against Espanyol to avoid relegation as they sit 18 in the league table with 34 points, trailing Deportivo by a point.

Deportivo host Real Sociedad in the final game of the season and a win at home against Sociedad will confirm Celta's relegation. Should Resino's side fail to stay in the La Liga, Aspas asking price could go down to £6m.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has now acted quickly to land Aspas as his former club Swansea City and Celta's league rivals Valencia were also interested in his services.

The player's versatile style of play will strengthen the Reds squad as he can operate as a striker up front or on the wider position as a winger.

The Merseyside club's chairman Tom Werner has promised the Reds will bring in new players in the summer transfer window.

The former Swansea manager is looking to bring one or two players to strengthen Liverpool's attacking division. Aspas' asking price fits into Liverpool's transfer policy and his versatile style of play will bolster their squad.
