Clubcall: Rodgers eyes double swoop
Jun 28th 2013, 10:34, by

This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

Liverpool still hope to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Llori while scouts have also checked out Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu.

Llori is currently playing for Portugal at the Under-20 World Cup in Turkey and the Reds are a long way down the road in terms of negotiations with both the player and club with an offer of just under £3million already on the table.

The Reds had hoped to have concluded a deal by now but talks have stalled, reportedly due to Sporting refusing to negotiate with his agent, and Liverpool are growing increasingly frustrated.

Sporting may want around £4million for the 20-year-old and boss Brendan Rodgers is likely to be able to afford that amount as he bids to add more strength in depth in defence over the summer.

Meanwhile, scouts have also been watching Deulofeu, who is in action for Spain at the U20 World Cup and they have been impressed with the 19-year-old's performances.

Barca are thought to be keen to keep hold of the player, who scored 18 goals for their B team last year, while Spurs have also been credited with an interest in the winger.

Sky Sports: Shakhtar open to offers
Jun 28th 2013, 08:23, by

This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

Shakhtar Donetsk chief executive Sergei Palkin insists Henrikh Mkhitaryan remains an important player for them but admits they are open to offers for the midfielder.

Palkin on Wednesday claimed Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund had failed with a bid of £19.5million, suggesting £25million was nearer the mark.

Liverpool are interested in the Armenia international but any deal for a player who set a Ukrainian league scoring record with 25 goals last season is a complicated one.

Russian big spenders Anzhi Makhachkala are now also reported to have entered the race.

"Henrikh is an important player in our team. Shakhtar wants to keep him, but we are willing to listen and consider all suggestions for a transfer," Palkin told Russian newspaper Izvestia.

"We have already parted with Willian (to Anzhi) and Fernandinho (to Manchester City), but the club will not just sell players.

"In the near future we will also gain quality, designed to replace the leading players, possibly including Henrikh."

Liverpool FC are still in negotiations to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori - but they had expected that deal to have been concluded by now.

Ilori is currently with Portugial at the U20 World Cup in Turkey.

Another Sporting starlet, winger Bruma, has caught the eye of Reds scouts there, though there is said to be very little chance of Liverpool making a move for the highly-rated 18-year-old this summer.

Scouts have also been watching Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu, who is in action for Spain.

Deulofeu had been expected to join Sevilla on loan, but Liverpool have made tentative enquiries over the possibility of taking the 19-year-old for the season.

Barca, though, are keen to hold on to the player, who scored 18 goals for their B team last year.

InsideFutbol: Ajax star latest

This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

The agent of Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed that Bayer Leverkusen appear to have gone cold on his client, opening the door to other suitors.

Alderweireld is poised to exit Dutch champions Ajax this summer and has been strongly linked with a number of clubs from England and Germany, with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Leverkusen just some of the names connected with the Belgian.

Of late Leverkusen have been in the driving seat, even holding talks with the player's representatives over a switch to the BayArena.

But the last week has brought nothing new, with the Germans having bemoaned Ajax's asking price.

"We have had no contact with Leverkusen for a week", agent Soren Lerby told Kicker. "Apparently, it is not important for them at this time."

Alderweireld's contract at Ajax expires next summer and he has so far not put pen to paper on an extension.

The Belgian stopper has repeatedly declared himself ready for the step up to a bigger league.

Express: PSG star stalls over deal

Liverpool are monitoring PSG's Mamadou Sakho's situation, as the centre half stalls over a new deal.

Sakho was unable to hold down a regular first-team spot for the Ligue 1 champions last season, and was frequently rotated by Carlo Ancelotti.

PSG are believed to be keen to retain Sakho's services and have already offered him a two-year contract rise along with a pay rise.

Liverpool could step up their interest as they appear to have reached a dead end with Sporting Lisbon's Tiago Ilori.

IBTimes.co.uk: Reds target Barca loan
Jun 27th 2013, 13:45

This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

Liverpool have entered the race to land Barcelona youngster Gerard Deulofeu who has been linked with a loan move away from the Spanish club in recent weeks.

Deulofeu is considered one of the best young prospects in the Barcelona academy and has been heavily compared with superstar Lionel Messi for his ability to run with the ball and score spectacular goals.

The 19 year old has become a regular in the Barcelona B side in the last two seasons and earlier this year signed a new four year deal as it is believed that he will soon be competing for a place in the first team under Tito Vilanova.

However, after Barcelona signed Neymar in a deal worth close to £50m it is believed that the club will be prepared to allow Deulofeu to join another club on a season long loan in order for him to gain first team experience at the highest level.

Deulofeu can play in a variety of attacking positions but much like Messi he is at his most dangerous when starting in wide areas and committing defenders. Last season he scored 18 league goals and he has been impressing this summer while representing Spain at the Under-20 World Cup.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Liverpool hope that new signing Luis Alberto can help convince his former Barcelona B teammate Deulofeu to make the switch to Anfield rather than a Premier League rival.

The pair played together last season and it seems as though manager Brendan Rodgers hopes that Alberto can have some influence over the young forward.

Liverpool have been one of the busiest clubs in the transfer window so far this summer as they have already completed deals for Alberto, Spanish forward Iago Aspas, centre-back Kolo Toure and most recently Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Should they manage to land Deulofeu then it would be a major coup for the club as the youngster is believed to be wanted by a host of clubs across Europe.
