Birmingham City are facing the prospect of selling Jack Butland on transfer deadline day, with Chelsea set to make a £3million bid.
Chelsea have made a firm enquiry for the England international goalkeeper and will battle Liverpool and Fulham in a chase that is likely to go into the final hours of Thursday.
Butland's fee has been significantly reduced only seven months after Birmingham rejected £6million from Southampton.
The Championship club fear they could be forced into selling at a low price, to avoid the threat of administration.
However, Chelsea could face difficulty convincing Butland that a move to Stamford Bridge is the sensible next step in his career.
That could leave Fulham as favourites to complete a deal, as current No.1 Mark Schwarzer is out of contract in the summer.
