Liverpool will make a sales pitch to Wesley Sneijder if the Inter Milan playmaker is serious about accepting a drop in his colossal wages.

Sneijder, 28, currently earns £6.5million a year after tax and has been frozen out by the Italian club after he was asked to take a pay cut as a condition of a new deal.

The breakdown in relations means he will leave the San Siro before the transfer window closes. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring in his experience, providing what would be a complex agreement can be reached on his personal terms.

Holland midfielder Sneijder is currently stalling on a move to Galatasaray, who have agreed a £6.3m deal with Inter and will wait until next week to discover whether the player will sign a £100,000-a-week contract which is also after tax.

Sneijder has publicly stated that money is not the motivating factor in his career plans and that stance, together with his apparent reluctance to move to Turkey, has encouraged Rodgers.

"It's not a question of money," said Sneijder. "Like all the players who have to decide what to do before January 31, I have that time. I won't be rushed."
