Stoke City have rubbished stories linking goalkeeper Asmir Begovic with a move away from the club, with Liverpool allegedly interested in signing the 25-year-old.
The Potters' purchase of England Under-21s keeper Jack Butland in the January transfer window led to growing speculation about the Bosnian's longer-term future at the club but chief executive Tony Scholes has quashed rumours of a departure.
"Asmir's agent rang me as soon as these stories surfaced. He assures me that Asmir doesn't know the Bosnian journalist [from whom the story apparently originated] and has certainly never spoken to him," Scholes told the club's official website.
"It's complete fabrication and unfortunately it has been picked up by a paper in this country.
"It's inevitable when a manager parts company with a club that there's a period of uncertainty and erroneous newspaper reports certainly don't help matters."
