La Liga giants Valencia are preparing to rival Liverpool for the signature of highly-rated Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori. The 20-year-old has won an army of fans this year for his impressive performances for the Portuguese giants, who have been left scrambling to persuade him to pen a new contract. English Premier League giants Liverpool are keen on the Portugal Under-20 international as they bid to reshape their defence for next season. But if Ilori is allowed to leave Lisbon, the Reds look likely to face competition to acquire his services. According to Portuguese daily Record, Valencia are stepping up their scouting of Ilori, having been impressed with his displays for Sporting Lisbon in what has been a troubled domestic campaign for the side. Ilori has made eleven appearances in the Portuguese top flight so far this season; the defensive starlet was handed senior starts upon stepping up from the club's B team in February.
