Reading defender Alex Pearce is closing in on a move to Liverpool and will pen a deal once he falls out of contract with the Royals.
Despite Reading's best efforts Pearce has refused to sign a new deal to stay at the Madejski Stadium and boss Nigel Adkins is planning for life in the Championship without him.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to sign at least one new central defender and, after tracking Pearce for the last six months, finally looks to have landed his man.
Rodgers is also keen on Royals goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, but he will not come cheap with Reading holding out for a fee in the region of £15million if they decide to cash in.
Pearce will follow Noel Hunt, Ian Harte, Nicky Shorey, Simon Church and Jay Tabb out of the exit door as Adkins looks to build a squad capable of winning promotion back to the Premier League.
