England U21 coach Brian Eastick believes Raheem Sterling is benefiting from Brendan Rodgers's decision to rest him at Liverpool.
The 18-year-old has had a fantastic season and made his senior England debut in November before signing a lucrative deal at Anfield.
Sterling has made 35 appearances in this campaign but has not featured for more than a month after boss Rodgers noticed he was becoming jaded.
The move has paid dividends, with the winger looking rejuvenated in England Under 21s 3-0 victory over Romania on Thursday night.
"He was very good," said Eastick.
"Brendan has obviously rested him recently so getting a game under his belt will benefit him. He's a talented player and that rest has helped. His performance against Romania was very good."
Sterling could feature for the Young Lions against Austria on Monday in their final game at home before the European Championship.
However, Stuart Pearce's side will be without the man of the match against Romania, Wilfried Zaha, due to prebooked dental work.
