Jamie Carragher will captain Liverpool FC in the final two games of his illustrious career as Steven Gerrard prepares to undergo shoulder surgery.

The 35-year-old defender will take over the armband for Sunday's trip to Fulham and the last home match against QPR.

Gerrard's season is over after the Reds decided to bring forward his operation. He has been hampered by the problem for months and was going to go under the knife after the end of the campaign.

However, the injury has progressively worsened in recent weeks and the club's medical staff have decided not to wait any longer.

Gerrard will also miss the end of season game in Cape Town and England's friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil.

The operation will keep Gerrard sidelined for between six and eight weeks so he should be back fit for the start of pre-season training.
