Liverpool and Tottenham are leading the race to sign QPR striker Loic Remy in a cut-price £5 million deal this summer.

Sources have told Goal.com that the relegation release clause in Remy's contract is "significantly lower" than the £8m that the Rs paid to sign the France international from Marseille in January.

Arsenal have also been linked with the 26-year-old but Liverpool are understood to have expressed the most serious interest, while Spurs are long-term admirers of the versatile forward.

Remy has scored five goals in 11 Premier League appearances since moving to QPR in the new year, a switch which he always considered as a stepping stone to win a move to a bigger club.

Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is attracted by Remy's versatility - he can also play on the wing - while the player's £75,000-a-week wages are within the club's reach, especially given the cut-price transfer fee.

Once dubbed the 'new Thierry Henry', the former Nice striker has expressed his desire to remain in England, with Liverpool and Spurs both understood to have held exploratory talks over a summer move.

Asked following QPR's relegation if the Premier League is the place for him, Remy replied: "I feel like  it is, in every way. There's more pressure and there's more contact, though there is more space, too.

"They play deep here and I like that. It's the perfect league for me."
