Liverpool have a strong interest in Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori. Brendan Rodgers has received positive reports about Ilori, who has forced his way into the first tea, starting his side's last nine Portuguese Liga matches. With Jamie Carragher retiring at the end of the season Rodgers is keen to plug a gap in his back line. But it seems Sporting are ready to ward off the Reds' interest by offering Ilori a new and improved contract. According to a report in A Bola, Rodgers is prepared to stump up £2m for the 20-year-old. However, they also mention that Ilori's contract expires in 2015 and Sporting manager Bruno Carvalho is looking to keep the defender at the Estadio Jose Alvalade until 2017.
