Liverpool have intensified their efforts to land Mamadou Sakho and are willing to fork out over £11m to sign him from Paris St-Germain in the next few days.
Brendan Rodgers is desperate to sign a new centre-back after seeing Kolo Toure suffer a groin injury during the 4-2 win against Notts County in midweek and Sakho is his preferred target.
French moneybags PSG have thus far rebuffed all offers from the Reds as they are desperate to hang on to a homegrown player who is regarded as a symbol of the club.
But with Thiago Silva and Marquinhos ahead of him in the queue for a first-team place, Sakho is keen to leave the French capital, especially in the build-up to next summer's World Cup.
Liverpool are aware Sakho is in the final year of his contract but they are still willing to pay a large fee to sign him this week.
Roma, who also want him, are unwilling to pay more than £4.2m, while AC Milan are only seeking a loan deal.
PSG are expected to make their decision later on Friday.
