Liverpool are poised to snap up Reading defender Alex Pearce when his contract expires at the end of the season. Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has been monitoring the young centre back throughout the Royals campaign and has seen enough to convince him to bring him to Anfield. Pearce, 24, has only made 21 appearances this term but the Liverpool boss is convinced he has all the raw attributes to be a big hit on Merseyside and sees him as a perfect replacement for the retiring Jamie Carragher. Reading's relegation from the Premier League was confirmed after a drab 0-0 draw with fellow strugglers QPR on Sunday. It is understood that Republic of Ireland international Pearce confirmed to Royals manager Nigel Adkins after the game that he would not be signing a new deal at the club, with a move to Liverpool already agreed in principle.
