AC Milan have finally reached an agreement to land Everton and Liverpool target Keisuke Honda from CSKA Moscow, according to reports in Russia.
Any summer deal looked dead in the water with the Russian club determined to hold on to the playmaker until his contract expired at the end of December.
But CSKA have now agreed to sell him for around £3.5m, rather than lose him for nothing on New Year's Day.
Liverpool and Everton have both been tracking the Japan international, who has impressed in Russia since moving from VVV-Venlo in 2010, while Milan have also monitored him closely.
And, after spells in Japan, Holland and Russia, the 27-year-old is ready to try his hand in one of the world's major leagues.
He is quoted as telling Izvestia: "I do not deny that I want to pursue a career elsewhere. I always want to grow as a professional, and for this I need to realise my dream - and to play in one of the world's top clubs.
"To CSKA I gave a few good years, but everything points to the fact that I will leave Moscow."
