Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has returned to training at Melwood this week as he steps up his recovery from shoulder surgery. The 33-year-old went under the knife in May after being persistently troubled by the injury throughout the second half of last season. But he returned to training this week, a full two weeks ahead of his team-mates, who are due back at Melwood at the beginning of July, and is expected to be fit to play a full part in the Reds' pre-season schedule.
