Simon Mignolet is due on Merseyside today to put the finishing touches on his £10m transfer to Liverpool.

The Sunderland goalkeeper is scheduled to undergo a medical at the Reds' Melwood training ground on Tuesday afternoon, and is expected to agree a five-year contract.

The 24-year-old will become Brendan Rodgers' fourth signing of a productive summer at Anfield, and will take the Reds' close-season spending to around £24m.

The deal for Mignolet involves an initial payment of £9m to Sunderland, with another £1m due in performance-related add-ons, based on appearances and achievements.

It will make the Belgian the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of the club.

Rodgers, meanwhile, remains keen to add further to his squad this summer, though negotiations to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori have yet to reach a suitable conclusion.

FC Porto winger Christian Atsu, who is valued at around £4m, is another target. And although it is understood that reports linking the Reds with a move for Celtic's powerful midfielder Victor Wanyama are premature, the player is rated by the club.

Liverpool's transfer budget could, however, receive a boost this week, if one-time target Tom Ince joins Cardiff City.

The Blackpool winger is understood to be on the verge of an £8m switch to the Premier League new boys. And that would mean Liverpool, who sold Ince to Blackpool for £250,000 back in 2011, would now be entitled to around £2.8m due to a 35 per cent sell-on clause agreed in that deal.

Liverpool had tried to bring Ince back to Anfield in a £4m switch back in January, but dropped their interest after they were unable to agree a deal with Blackpool.
