Derby are determined to keep hold of midfield ace Will Hughes in January and have slapped a £12million fee on the Liverpool target.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been monitoring Hughes's progress for the past 18 months and he is prepared to make a move but the Championship club want to keep him until the end of the season at least and have put a big price tag on him.
The England U21 star is also wanted by Manchester United and Arsenal but Liverpool are thought to lead the chase for the highly-rated 18-year-old but will only make a move in the New Year if one of their rivals does the same, otherwise Rodgers will leave it until the summer.
Derby are resigned to losing him but do not want him to go midway through the season.
