LIVERPOOL are set to rival Chelsea and Real Madrid for the signing of Benfica's Nemanja Matic.
The former Chelsea player left Stamford Bridge for Portugal in 2009 as part of the deal that brought David Luiz to the club.
Jose Mourinho is known to be an admirer and was linked with a move to bring the Serbian international back to the club over the summer.
However, reports in Portugal suggest that Liverpool have now entered the race for the 25-year-old.
According to O Jogo, Brendan Rodgers has made Matic's signing a priority in January as he seeks to strengthen his midfield.
Matic was named Portugal's Primeira Liga Player of the Year for his performances last season, after winning the monthly award on three occasions.
