Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson is back in training with the Merseyside club and could return to action against Newcastle this weekend.
The 29-year-old limped out of the Reds' 1-0 win over Manchester United in early September with an ankle injury and it was feared he would miss up to 10 weeks.
But he has progressed better than first expected and he is now back in full training and could figure at St James' Park on Saturday lunchtime.
The former Chelsea and Portsmouth defender confirmed the positive news on Twitter over the weekend.
Speaking last month Rodgers was eager to get his first choice right-back back out on the pitch admitting his side have missed him in his absence.
"Glen is the type of player you don't realise what you're missing until he's not in the team," he said.
"He was outstanding against Manchester United so it will be great when we get him back. He's got the cast off his foot now and he's working hard to be back in the next few weeks."
The 40-year-old has been forced to change system while he's been missing despite having both Andre Wisdom and Martin Kelly available as backup options.
