Brendan Rodgers has returned from holiday to take charge of Liverpool's transfer business as he steps up his interest in Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

The Liverpool boss has been impressed by the Belgian international's performances last season and he was the Wearsiders' stand-out player.

Sunderland are determined to drive a hard bargain for Mignolet and want closer to £10million.

Rodgers hopes to take a step closer to signing Sevilla winger Luis Alberto and Barcelona have until today to exercise a clause in his loan agreement to sign him permanently.

Rodgers will move if they don't and he feels the wideman would boost his attacking options.

Liverpool are confident they will complete Iago Aspas' £7.7million switch - despite the Celta Vigo striker flying back to Spain last night.

Aspas' camp cited "bureaucratic issues", but with the fee and medical all agreed, Liverpool believe the deal will be done.

The Reds also remain in negotiations with Sporting Lisbon over defender Tiago llori.

They have offered £3million, with Sporting demanding £4.2million, and the Anfield outfit believe a compromise figure can be reached.
