Brendan Rodgers is hoping to  further bolster his Liverpool squad with the  signing of Benfica defender Lorenzo Melgarejo.
Rodgers is targeting the  22-year-old left-back on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent move.
As a Paraguay international, Melgarejo would require a work permit for any transfer to be ratified by the authorities.
However, Rodgers is an admirer of the defender  - who has also been tracked by Arsenal and  Fenerbahce this summer - and believes  he can provide genuine competition to  Jose Enrique at left-back.
Melgarejo, who played against  Chelsea in the Europa League final last  season, began his career as a winger  before being converted to a defender  by Benfica coach Jorge Jesus.
