Bleacher Report: NYC and playing the Rodgers way

Liverpool winger Harry Wilson was signed by the club as an eight-year-old. Now 16 and part of Liverpool's Under-18 set-up, Wilson will be producing a daily diary for Bleacher Report during their trip to New York for the Newark International Soccer Classic.

It was an early start yesterday (Sunday). Our squad of 17 players met at 6am and travelled from Kirby to Manchester airport. The flight left at 9:25-we were in the normal seats, not up with the business class lot.

Flying in over Manhattan was amazing. You could see all the buildings and the New York skyline. We've been to Qatar and a few other places before, but this is the first time the team's been to America together.

Today started with a gentle training session to get everybody loose after the flight. Later on, we're heading into Manhattan for some media work, which I'm really looking forward to. After that, we'll rest up in preparation for our opening game tomorrow against Fuddercol of Colombia.

As a squad, we get on really well and have a really good laugh together. I'm rooming with Ryan Kent, who joined Liverpool around the same time I did. We play in a similar position and we're really close. I'm also tight with Tom Brewitt.

New lads come in all the time, but they're quickly in the mix with the banter. We play a lot of FIFA and listen to music together.

My career actually started at Manchester United. It didn't work out there-they chose another Harry ahead of me-but Liverpool said they wanted to have a look at me and it went from there. They must have liked what they saw.

I'm a Welsh winger, so Ryan Giggs was an obvious hero when I was a kid. These days I look a lot to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. I'm attack-minded and love getting forward.

Since Brendan Rodgers took over, the youth team plays to the shape of the first team. We go with a 4-3-3, with me playing as one of the top wide players. I'm left-footed, but can play on either side of that formation.

We had the chance to train with a few first team players a couple of weeks ago-the likes of Kolo Toure and Philippe Coutinho. The big difference you notice is how the tempo changes. Everything happens too quickly.

Everything we do with Liverpool is designed to get the best out of the players. We're told when and what to eat, and when to rest. It's very important to get all the stuff right. With the game tomorrow, we'll be following a strict plan to be ready for it.
