Brendan Rodgers is keen to add some experience to his goalkeeping department following Pepe Reina's departure to Napoli on loan, and Given is surplus to requirements at Aston Villa. Villa boss Paul Lambert did not take him on the club's pre-season tour this summer, and it is clear the Republic of Ireland international has no future at the Birmingham club. The 37-year-old has three years left on his £60,000-a-week deal, and Villa are keen to get him off their wage bill.
