I saw my old mate Ian Rush was on these pages this week talking about Ashley Williams, and how he would make a solid summer signing for Liverpool.
I agree, though I would always add the caveat that any deal would have to be done at the right price, considering the player's pedigree and age.
To me, Williams looks like one of those players who just improves year upon year. I saw a lot of him last year and thought he was good, but he had a mistake in him.
This year, he's ironed that out. Whether it is because of the presence of Chico Flores - a very good defender - alongside him, or what, I'm not at all sure, but he looks better this season than he did last.
He's assured, even when he's being put under pressure. He can play and he can graft. You don't get many centre backs like that at the moment.
The other one we have been linked with, although I'm told the interest in him has cooled somewhat, is Stefan De Vrij at Feyenoord.
I've seen him play. He's a young lad, but he is going to have a big future. He's typical of the Dutch game, if you like.
Comfortable on the ball, good passer. Maybe the only doubt you'd have over him is his pace.
