Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to solve his strike-force dilemma in the summer transfer window by snapping up Aston Villa forward Andreas Weimann, according to the Metro.

The 21-year-old has impressed the Reds boss with a number of stand-out performances during his breakthrough season with Villa.

Signing professional terms for the Birmingham-based club in 2010, the bustling Austrian forward has become a key man for Paul Lambert's side. But despite the healthy relationship between himself and his manager, numerous contract extensions have been turned down by the talented striker.

The Merseyside club are now expected to capitalise on his stalling contract talks.

The only recognised strikers available to Rogers are Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini. Suárez is the only Liverpool player to have reached double-figures in goals so far this season.

Weimann has certainly established himself as a natural finisher this season; scoring 11 goals for Villa in all competitions so far. The Vienna-born forward has built a clinical partnership with highly-rated team-mate Christian Benteke, thus leaving record signing Darren Bent to warm the bench.

At only 21, the Austria international has plenty of room to develop into a true Premier League marksman, and if Liverpool can sign Weimann for a bargain fee, the Anfield outfit could pull off a very tidy bit of business indeed.
