Some football fans buy all the strips, others turn their bedrooms into a shrine to their team while some follow their club home and away, on British soil or abroad. But for fanatical Liverpool supporter Axel Gogstad that just wasn't enough. To prove his commitment to the men in red the 27-year-old decided to legally change his surname to Anfield. Now called Axel Gogstad-Anfield, he believes he is the first person in his home country of Norway to choose the name. The sports journalism student in Southampton added the name of the club's historic stadium to his official title nine years ago. He said: "I changed my name to Anfield when I turned 18 back in Norway, I've had it for nine years now. "It was quite a spontaneous thing, really. "I've always been proud of my name but I thought if I put 'Anfield' to it I'd be even more proud of it and I can carry Liverpool wherever I'm going." Axel has no regrets changing his name to the stadium he has visited on nine occasions. But the title came as a complete shock to his puzzled mother who was delivered the news over the dinner table. He said: "When I came back home, I had dinner with my family. "My mum said 'What have you been doing today?' and I said 'I changed my name to Anfield'. She said 'No, you haven't' and I said 'Yes, I did'. "We went back and forth for half an hour, and then I showed her the papers. She said 'No really, you didn't?'" Axel jokes that any Liverpool fan considering following in his footsteps will have to check with him first to get permission. He said: "It was quite easy because I was the first one. If there had been anyone before me, it would have been much more difficult. "But since I was the first one, it was quite easy. It only took about a week." The name change does guarantee the 27-year-old strange glances, particularly when travelling through Manchester Airport. He said: "I get a little stick from Manchester United fans, obviously.
