Reports emanating from the United Kingdom believe Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is considering making a move for former club favourite Xabi Alonso.
The deep-lying playmaker had five memorable seasons at Anfield, where he helped the club win the 2005 UEFA Champions League, before leaving for current club Real Madrid in the summer of 2009.
Although he remains a first team regular at the Santiago Bernabeu, Alonso turns 32 in November and some haved claimed Los Blancos' recent purchase of talented youngster Isco is a real hint that his days at the club are numbered.
And according to the Daily Mail, a return to Liverpool could be on the cards for the Spain international as Rodgers is keen on adding more talent to his squad after failing in his bid to sign Shakhtar Donetsk's Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is set to join Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
Already this summer, Rodgers has secured the services of Luis Alberto from Sevilla, Simon Mignolet from Sunderland and Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo, while 32-year-old Kolo Toure was signed on a free transfer from Manchester City.
