Liverpool are pushing ahead with their bid to sign Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Willian in the face of interest from Tottenham, sources have told ESPN.

Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring in the 25-year-old, who Anzhi are prepared to sell for around £28 million.

Liverpool have opened talks with the Russian Premier League club, but Spurs are also ready to meet the Brazilian's asking price, sources have told ESPN.

Willian -- who only moved to Anzhi from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in January -- told ESPN Brasil last week that he would welcome a move to Liverpool, describing them as a "great club".

He is expected to make a decision on his future later this week, with Anzhi ready to sell him as they look to cut costs, having been bankrolled for the last two years by billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov.

Meanwhile, Valencia left-back Aly Cissokho is expected on Merseyside for a medical later on Monday.

Liverpool agreed a deal in principle with the Spanish club on Friday to sign the France international on a season-long loan deal.

"We have reached a loan agreement, with an option to buy on Liverpool's part," Valencia president Amadeo Salvo said after the club's 1-0 opening day win against Malaga.

"The kid will travel tomorrow [Sunday] to Liverpool for a medical, if that goes well then the transfer will be made official. The option to buy can be taken at the end of the season."
