EVERTON and QPR are set to battle it out for the signature of former Liverpool and Juventus midfielder Momo Sissoko.

Reports in France suggest the Mali international is surplus to requirements at PSG, having spent last season on loan at Fiorentina, and could be available for a nominal fee.

According to France Football, Everton and QPR lead the chase for the tough tackling defensive midfielder, although it is not yet known whether Sissoko is willing to consider a move to the Championship to join Harry Redknapp's side.

Sissoko moved to Rafa Benitez's Valencia on a free transfer from Auxerre in 2003, and followed the manager to Liverpool for £5.6m in 2005.

But the player was also a favourite of Claudio Ranieri, who replaced Benitez at Valencia, and then took Sissoko to Juventus for £9.5m in 2008.

Sissoko endured a torrid time with injuries at Juventus, but that didn't stop PSG making a £7m bid to bring the player to the French capital in 2011.

However, Sissoko never really established himself at Parc des Princes and was loaned back to Italy last season with Fiorentina, making five appearances for the Viola.

It seems that neither Benitez or Ranieri are willing to gamble on taking Sissoko to Napoli or Monaco respectively, leaving the door open for a return to England with Everton or QPR.

Roberto Martinez often included a player of Sissoko's style in his teams at Wigan but even at only 28 years old, Sissoko may represent a risky signing given his injury history.

QPR, on the other hand, would be willing to take a risk to attract a player of Sissoko's calibre and experience to help guide them back to the Premier League next season, but it remains to be seen whether Sissoko's wage demands prove prohibitive.

Sissoko's contract with PSG champions expires at the end of the season.
