Aly Cissohko is on the verge of joining Liverpool but it is still not clear whether the move will be a loan or a permanent deal.

Cissokho has confirmed that personal terms with Liverpool have been agreed but the clubs are still negotiating the nature of the deal that would send the French international to Anfield.

Speaking to Le10Sport, Cissokho said: "Liverpool came to me and it's true that I have agreed to join them. Now it's down to the clubs to decide a transfer deal."

Rumours has suggested that Liverpool had agreed to pay Valencia €1m (£870,000) for a year-long loan with the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season for a further €4m (£3.5m).

But it seems that the clubs still have different preferences when it comes to the exact structure of the deal.

Cissokho added: "Liverpool want a loan, while Valencia prefer a permanent transfer."

And Cissokho revealed that despite a move seeming so close, nothing is certain, and the deal could still collapse even at this late stage.

He said: "We should know more this week. If nothing happens in that time it will mean I am definitely not joining Liverpool."Cissokho also suggested he would not be averse to return to Valencia if a transfer can not be agreed.

He added: "If I do not go it will not be a problem. I am also happy at Valencia."
