Liverpool are in pole position to land Valencia defender Aly Cissokho.
The French international left-back has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League and the Reds are in talks with the Spanish side in a bid to land the former Lyon star.
Cissokho, 25, was in line to join Everton last summer as a possible replacement for Leighton Baines, who was widely reported to have been on his way to Manchester United.
After enjoying a good start to last season, Cissokho lost his place in the Valencia side and is now keen to move to England.
"In the second part of the season I don't have as much playing time, unlike the first. Are English clubs my future? I am proud that my name is matched with these clubs but I'm fine here. I just hope to play more," Cissokho said.
"Liverpool? I have never hidden that the Premier League is the league that attracts me the most. It's pleasing to see my name linked to that of the Reds. They're a great club, and not just anyone can wear that shirt. For now, however it is just rumours."
