Tottenham and Liverpool are set to battle it out for Tiago Ilori after Sporting Lisbon confirmed they will listen to offers of £6m for the player.

Liverpool made a £3m bid for the talented defender earlier in the offseason only for the Anfield club to turn their attentions elsewhere after Sporting reportedly refused to negotiate.

But according to A Bola, the Portugese club are now ready to cash in on Ilori after failing to get the 20-year-old to agree to a new contract.

Brendan Rodgers is thought to be an admirer of Ilori after being impressed by the player's performances in the centre of Sporting's defence after breaking into the side in February.

Rodgers has already signed Kolo Toure from Manchester City this summer as a replacement for the retired Jamie Carragher but is thought to be interested in adding Ilori.

Ilori built on his burgeoning reputation with some assured displays for Portugal at the U20 World Cup in Turkey earlier this summer, and that alerted Andre Villas-Boas that he could be a good fit at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham are also looking to add a new defender after the sale of Steven Caulker to Cardiff, missing out on Romanian defender Vlad Chiriches and a pre-season injury to Jan Vertonghen.
