What's the latest?
Liverpool are deciding whether or not to bid on Sporting and Spain winger Diego Capel, with the £5m-rated 25-year-old also said to be attracting the attention of Marseille and Atletico Madrid. Swansea and Tottenham have also been linked to the winger and any offer is likely to test the Portuguese club's resolve as they are believed to be facing a tough time financially.

Did you know?
1) When he was 11 years old, Barca spotted him playing for local team Olula CF in a youth tournament and after speaking with his parents, he agreed to join the Catalan club. However, the youngster suffered from homesickness, and after a matter of months returned to his parents in southern Spain. His former Barcelona youth coach, Xavi Llorens, described him as a "great player with a brilliant left foot. His problem wasn't to do with his ability."

2) The Spaniard was given a second chance in 2001 when Sevilla signed him to their own youth ranks. In 2004, after proving a success in his first year with Sevilla's B team, Barcelona came calling again, but Capel decided to stay in Andalusia. It proved to be a wise move, with his senior debut coming in October 2004 against Atletico Madrid when he was only 16, making him the second youngest player ever to play for Sevilla, behind Jose Antonio Reyes.

3) In the summer of 2007 the winger was promoted permanently to the Sevilla first team, following the tragic death of their wing-back Antonio Puerta. By the 2008/09 season Capel was a key player for the Andalucians, playing 41 times in all competitions. Over the next few years, however, he gradually lost his place in the starting line-up, and as a result, agreed to leave the club and join Sporting Lisbon for just over £5m ahead of the 2011/12 season.

4) Capel scored his first Sporting goal in October 2011 in a 1-0 win against Vitoria Guimaraes and a couple of weeks later scored two goals in five minutes during a 6-1 thrashing of Gil Vicente. He also performed well in Sporting's Europa League run where they reached the semis, scoring in the home leg of their last four clash with Athletic Bilbao. The Portuguese team lost 4-3 on aggregate.

5) Capel played for Spain at U17, U19, U20 and U21 level and, most recently, won the 2011 UEFA U21 Championship. He came on in the 2-0 win against Switzerland in the final and made his senior Spain debut in a 3-0 friendly victory against Denmark in August 2008.
