AC Milan are ready to battle Liverpool for the signature of Mamadou Sakho and will firm up their interest if they qualify for this season's Champions League proper. Sources in France claim the Reds are still interested in the Paris St-Germain man, who is keen to leave the French capital to secure first-team football ahead of next summer's World Cup in Brazil. Brendan Rodgers is still looking to strengthen his defensive options following Jamie Carragher's retirement and Sakho is among his targets. But AC Milan are also keen and want to bring him to the San Siro if they see off PSV Eindhoven in their two-legged Champions League qualifying tie. However, they are uncertain about paying a substantial fee for a player who is out of contract in June and will seek to take him on loan first with the option of a permanent deal next summer.
