Liverpool are set to fight it out with Everton for the signing of Wigan forward Arouna Kone.
Kone was one of the stand-out players for the Latics last term, helping them to an incredible FA Cup success.
And former Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is keen to take the 29-year-old with him to Everton, but it now appears the Toffees will have to battle Merseyside rivals Liverpool for his signature, with Brendan Rodgers also interested.
The Ivorian has a £6.5m release clause in his Wigan contract, a sum which both clubs could deem reasonable for a reliable goalscorer.
Celta Vigo frontman Iago Aspas is thought to be on the brink of completing his £7.7m move to the Reds, but Kone's top-flight experience in England alongside his 13 goals in just his first Premier League season has captured Rodgers' interest.
