Liverpool will be ready to move fast if Ivan Rakitic decides to leave Sevilla after the Croatian midfielder revealed he is waiting to see who the Spanish club signs during the summer.
Rakitic has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield as Brendan Rodgers looks to bring in a creative midfielder during the summer.
The 25-year-old, who has played for both Basel and Schalke, has a wealth of experience playing in both the Bundesliga and La Liga.
Rakitic says he is happy to stay at Sevilla, but says he needs to see what will happen over the next few months after they sold key duo Andres Palop and Jesus Navas and will not commit his long-term future until later in the summer.
Rakitic said: "I am motivated and happy at the club, despite the situation not looking very good. The club has asked me to stay and they want to build with me a new team.
"First, as I have said, I want to see what reinforcements they bring in. We have a quality team that can do better than this season.
"There is a grain of possibility that we can play in the Europa League. We are not at our strongest right now because two pillars of the team, Andres Palop and Jesus Navas, have left us, they had been important at the club for years.
"We must find replacements for them. Of course our game will change, as we had based a lot of it through Navas and his speed. I believe in the coach, who says he has a few ideas."
