Juventus will rival Liverpool to sign Xabi Alonso if he cannot reach an agreement with Real Madrid over a new deal.
Alonso, who left Anfield for Madrid in 2009, turns 32 in November and is in the final year of his contract.
Talks over an extension have so far proved fruitless and Real are considering their options.
They are well stocked in midfield and Alonso could leave - with Juventus keeping a keen eye on developments.
Liverpool have been linked with the Spanish international in the past but if Brendan Rodgers does decide to build on his interest, Juventus will prove a difficult competitor.
The Serie A giants are even planning a move that would see Alonso join them in January for a fee rather than for nothing next summer.
