Liverpool will have to beat off interest from Italian giants Juventus if they are to land midfielder Xabi Alonso from Real Madrid.
The former Red left Anfield for Madrid in 2009 but looks set to be on the move next summer, when his contract runs out, as there appears to be little sign of a new offer coming at the Bernabeu.
Real are well stocked for midfielders and may well cash in on Alonso in January, when he will be 32, with Juventus ready to make a concrete offer in the new year.
If Brendan Rodgers is to follow up his interest in the player then he too will have to offer cash when the window opens rather than wait and get him on a free next summer.
