Everton have thrown their hat into the ring in the battle to land Will Hughes from Derby although Liverpool remain favourites.
The midfielder has been on Liverpool's wanted list for a while as he is seen as a possible long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard, but Reds scouts were joined by two from the Blue side of the city when he was in action at Bolton on Tuesday.
Roberto Martinez may be persuaded to make a move for the England Under-21 international as early as January and try and sneak in ahead of arch-rivals Liverpool who have been tracking Hughes for some time, but are yet to make an offer.
The 18-year-old limped off at Bolton after picking up a knock but he had already set up one goal in the 2-2 draw before being substituted.
