Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio is set to hand new striker Fabio Borini his debut in Saturday's home clash with Arsenal.
Borini signed on a season-long loan deal on transfer deadline day and he looks likely to get the nod to partner Steven Fletcher in attack.
Fletcher is also pushing for his first start of the season after getting off the bench to score at Crystal Palace two weeks ago.
John O'Shea remains absent as he is suspended following his sending off in the defeat at Palace but Jack Colback is expected to keep his place at left-back over Andrea Dossena as Di Canio searches for his first win of the season.
