Liverpool are set to go head-to-head with Arsenal in January in a bid to sign Palermo's wantaway striker Abel Hernandez.
The 23-year-old was linked with a deadline-day move to the Gunners earlier this month but that deal fell through when the Londoners learnt of Demba Ba's potential availability at Chelsea.
Having failed to negotiate a loan deal for Ba, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to go back in for Hernandez in January but will face competition from Liverpool this time, according to reports in Italy.
The Reds are being linked with a £4million swoop for the Uruguayan, who has previously started he wants to leave current club Palermo following their relegation to Serie B.
Hernandez is thought to be open to a switch to the Premier League and may be tempted by a transfer to Anfield where he could link up with compatriot Luis Suarez.
