Liverpool have been encouraged to follow up interest in Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen by coach Frank de Boer, who has given the Dane the green light to move to the Premier League if he wishes.

Eriksen, who caught the attention of Europe's top clubs last summer with his performances in the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine, has just one year left on his contract at Ajax.

And De Boer said he won't stand in the midfielder's way if he wishes to leave the club.

"It is up to Christian what he wants," De Boer said. "If he feels good going to Liverpool, then it is up to him.

"I would want nothing more than having him with us for a few more years.

"But we realise the interest in this kind of player is huge. And I can also understand that he wants to make another step in his career. I can't stop him."

Eriksen arrived at Ajax as a teenager, and at 21 has already clocked up 36 caps for Denmark. He scored 10 league goals in 33 appearances in the Eredivisie last season.
