Norwich have agreed a fee of £6.9million with Ajax for highly-rated defender Toby Alderweireld.
However, the 24-year-old had told Belgium paper Het Laatste Nieuws: 'I do not want to play in an English club to mid-table.'
If they can convince him to sign, Norwich will add to a spending spree which already includes Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Javier Garrido, Nathan Redmond, Martin Olsson and Carlo Nash.
Liverpool had been the frontrunners in the race to land Alderweireld after the Belgium international gave the green light to a possible summer move to Anfield.
Manchester United, Everton and Newcastle are amongst a number of other Premier League clubs believed to be interested in the highly-rated Ajax defender.
