Cardiff City expect an answer from Tom Ince in the next 24 hours on whether he will accept their contract offer, Goal understands.

The England Under-21 international held talks with the Premier League newcomers earlier this week and he has an offer on the table after Cardiff met the £8 million release clause in his Blackpool agreement.

But it is understood that Ince has been waiting for his former club Liverpool to make a move before giving Cardiff the go-ahead to formalise the deal.

As revealed by Goal, the Anfield academy graduate's preferred destination would be a return to Merseyside.

Liverpool registered their interest in the attacking midfielder earlier this month but have not followed up with a formal bid.

Cardiff are now demanding a decision from the 21-year-old and he is expected to let the Bluebirds know in the next 24 hours if he will sign for them.

Manager Malky Mackay said: "We've had a bid accepted by Blackpool. We've agreed terms with the agent. [On] Friday morning the ball's in their court and on Friday morning we'll have a decision one way or another."

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wants to add further width and penetration to his attack and has targeted Ince.

The Merseysiders came close to signing Ince in January but could not agree a fee with Blackpool during what were understood to be 'heated' negotiations with the Championship club, which were complicated by the 35 per cent sell-on clause in the deal that took Ince from Anfield to the Seasiders in August 2011.

But Cardiff made their first formal move for Ince, with the player's father Paul, the former England and Manchester United midfielder who is his manager at Bloomfield Road, admitting that Blackpool had accepted a bid from last season's Championship winners.

The Liverpool academy graduate has blossomed at Bloomfield Road, scoring 18 league goals for the 15th-placed second-tier club last season.
