Manager Roy Hodgson also waded into the debate prompted by FA chairman Greg Dyke'sadmission that England have no realistic chance of winning next year's World Cup by claiming the campaign is not a doomed mission.
England are struggling in qualification for next year's tournament in Brazil ahead of tonight's game at Wembley with Moldova and the trip to Ukraine on Tuesday.
They lie second in Group H, two points behind Montenegro, who have played a game more, while Ukraine are just a point behind England.
When skipper Gerrard was asked if he agreed that the England team are as weak as has been suggested, his response was blunt: "I don't".
The Liverpool midfielder added: "I don't want to get involved in a worldwide debate about English football. Getting to this World Cup is my priority.
"There hasn't been a reaction [to Dyke's statement]. None of the players are talking about what Greg said. They're all focused on getting the six points from these two games with strong performances. It won't be about proving any individuals wrong."
Gerrard agreed that England will be nobody's favourites to win the tournament in South America, but said they could still go there and make a big impression.
