Simon Mignolet has urged Liverpool "to put things right" when they face Manchester United on Wednesday night.

The Reds will head to Old Trafford for the Capital One Cup tie looking to bounce back from Saturday's dismal 1-0 defeat to Southampton.

"We wanted to win the game, especially when you play at home at Anfield against Southampton you want to get three points," Mignolet said.

"They came here, blocked us off and were really organised which made it difficult for us to play and create chances.

"We've got another game on Wednesday, when we can put things right straight away. I think it's a perfect scenario to get back to it. We have a decent game to look forward to and everybody can put things right.

"Sometimes you have a disappointing result, but then you have to make sure the result and performance afterwards is back on top."

Injured duo Glen Johnson and Philippe Coutinho were sorely missed on Saturday but the keeper says there were no excuses for the Reds' below par display.

"We have a wide enough squad to deal with injuries and suspensions," Mignolet added.

"Everybody can look back on their performance, and take the positives and negatives out of it. We all have to look at ourselves. We have a game on Wednesday to put things right and I'm sure everybody will be up for it again.

"We have very strong individuals in the dressing room. I'm sure everybody will be looking forward to the game against Manchester United."
