Clubcall: Striker blow for Black Cats

Sunderland caretaker boss Kevin Ball is without star striker Steven Fletcher for the clash with Liverpool on Sunday.

The striker picked up a shoulder injury in the defeat to West Brom last week and will not feature against the Reds which means Jozy Altidore could lead the line, but Emanuele Giaccherini, who scored in midweek in the Capital One Cup win over Peterborough, is pushing for a start.

Lee Cattermole is almost certain to start as long as he has not suffered any reaction to his midweek run out but Fabio Borini is ineligible to play against his parent club after joining Sunderland on loan from Liverpool on transfer deadline day.

Defensive duo Wes Brown (calf) and Phil Bardsley (foot) remain sidelined and will not feature.
