Jordan Henderson says moving to Liverpool has helped his chances with England.

But the 23-year-old knows he must show consistency in the coming months if he is to win his place back in the Three Lions squad.

Henderson has not featured for the senior side since last summer's European Championships.

The former Sunderland man was captain of the U21s but is no longer eligible to play for the young Lions.

And so Henderson must now focus on breaking back into Roy Hodgson's squad - almost 16 months after his last game.

"Everybody wants to play for England and I am no different," said Henderson, who has five caps for the senior side.

Henderson has spent most of the season playing in an unfamiliar wide right role for Liverpool but suspension to Lucas gave him an opportunity in central midfield.

The £16m player was named man-of-the-match in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace earlier this month and played in the middle against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Henderson has been used in a variety of positions - including at right-back - in his two-year stint at Liverpool but still feels he has improved "100%" after making the switch from the Stadium of Light.

And he hopes to continue making strides at Anfield so that he can win his place back in the England squad in time for next summer's World Cup.

"I still have a long way to go to be where I want to be," Henderson added.

"I need to improve. But if I keep playing well then hopefully I will get an opportunity with England.

"I feel as though I have improved 100% since I have come to Liverpool. I look at my game when I was younger, and you compare my game now I think I have improved massively. Hopefully I can carry that on."

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers told the ECHO last weekend that Henderson is "perfect" for a place in the England squad.
