Liverpool are now set to go head to head with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race to win the signature of highly rated FC Basel wide man Mohamed Salah, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The coveted Egypt international has been with the Swiss champions since April 2012, when Salah moved to the St Jacob-Park from El-Mokawloon SC on a four-year deal.

And in the intervening period, the 21-year-old has really gone on to catch the eye for Basel, and none more so than in this current campaign in which Salah has been one of the club's most impressive performers, both domestically and in Europe too.

In total, Salah has registered six goals and five assists in total in his 20 matches in all competitions for the Swiss giants, including two strikes and four assists in just 13 league outings for the club.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian has also been in outstanding form for his country too, netting six times in their qualifying campaign for next summer's Fifa World Cup in Brazil.

As a result, it is now understood that the Merseyside giants are planning on making a bid for Salah come the turn of the year, although with a contract with Basel that lasts until 2016, it is expected his club will seek at least £15 million for his services.
